20th Century Baktiar Carpet
Early 20th Century Bakhtiar carpet from west Persia dating to 1900.
Early Bakhtiar carpets, woven in the Zagros mountains of west Persia, are one of the few types that encompass both Persian tribal and city rug design influences. They are notable for their high wool quality and rich colours.
This early example has artistic Arts & Crafts characteristics.
Each pattern in the central field is cleverly repeated in a different colour combination, instead of a central medallion motif.
It is framed by a wide ivory border and has wonderful vegetable-dyed colours.
